Okkulte Themen


Die folgenden Kampagnenthemen verbinden die Elemente okkulter Abenteuer auf unterschiedliche Weise und sollen Spielleitern als Hilfestellungen und Vorlagen dienen, um in ihren Kampagnen die Türen des Okkulten aufzustoßen.

Die Okkulte Unterwelt

Die Elemente „Verborgene Reiche“ und „Fremdartige Regeln und auffällige Muster“ erwähnen eine okkulte Unterwelt, die hinter dem Deckmantel des Alltagslebens existiert. Angehörige der okkulten Unterwelt geben sich als gewöhnliche Leute aus, die allen möglichen Gesellschaftsschichten angehören. Abenteuer, die auf dieses Thema zurückgreifen, sind voller Paranoia und Schrecken, da niemand sicher ist und die SC niemandem vertrauen können, während sie finstere Geheimnisse untersuchen. Allerdings hegt nicht jede Geheimgesellschaft finstere Pläne und gibt es sogar einige, die gegründet wurden, um sich den Machenschaften böser Kulte entgegenzustellen. Möglicherweise treten die Charaktere im Verlauf eines okkulten Abenteuers sogar einer solchen Gruppierung bei oder könnten als eigene Machtgruppe innerhalb der okkulten Unterwelt anerkannt werden. Wenn Gegenspieler ihren Zielen näherkommen, erzeugt dies Spannung und ein Gefühl von Dringlichkeit, welches zudem die Charaktere motiviert. Selbst wenn die Charaktere jeden Schachzug ihrer Gegner vorausahnen, kannst du den Eindruck stärken, dass sich durch die ganze Kampagne dunkle Seilschaften erstrecken, indem die Geheimgesellschaften, gegen die die SC vorgehen, kleinere, mit den SC nicht in Verbindung stehende Siege erringen. Vielleicht sind die Charaktere damit beschäftigt, einen Kult davon abzuhalten, die Stadttore in ein Portal zur Hölle zu verwandeln, während ein kleiner Ableger des Kultes anderswo einen mächtigen Teufel als ersten Schritt in einem anderen Teil des großen Gesamtplanes des Kultanführers beschwört.

Du kannst eine allgegenwärtige okkulte Unterwelt auch einführen, indem du die SC direkt triffst – ein ihnen wichtiger NSC stellt sich in diesem Fall als Angehöriger eines Kultes oder einer Geheimgesellschaft heraus, gegen die die SC vorgehen. Denke dir anhand der Szenen, in denen jener NSC bisher in Erscheinung getreten ist, sein Motiv aus und wie er die Ziele seiner Gruppierung dabei voranbringt. Wenn dir dies gut gelingt, werden die Spieler rückblickend seine Motiv klar erkennen, als hättest du seinen Verrat von Anfang an geplant.

Krieg des Geister

Okkulte Elemente wie „Rätsel innerhalb von Rätseln“, „Die Macht und der Preis des Wissens“ und „Schicksale schlimmer als der Tod“ können verbunden ein machtvolles, alles überspannendes Kampagnenthema ergeben, dass sich mit dem Kampf um die Herrschaft zwischen den Welten der Lebenden und der Toten befasst. Die Schleier zwischen den Welten werden zunehmend dünner; Spukerscheinungen, Geister und verlorene Seelen sind etwas Alltägliches in solchen Kampagnen, aber nicht die wahren Gegenspieler – diese Aufgabe obliegt oft mächtigen Externaren[link1] mit Legionen an Dienern, welche Seelen für einen profitablen Schwarzmarkt in den Reichen der Finsternis ernten. Geister auf der Suche nach der ewigen Ruhe treten häufig auf und die SC stehen vor der Aufgabe, den Toten dabei zu helfen, ihren Weg ins Jenseits zu finden – oder sie auch auf diesen Weg zu zwingen. Sie vollenden Aufgaben, die eine Seele zu Lebzeiten nicht vollenden konnte, oder legen einen Geist gewaltsam zur Ruhe. Bei solchen Kampagnen steht vieles auf dem Spiel und ist der Tod niemals das Ende.

Vorstoß ins Jenseits

Spielleiter, die sich mit den Elementen „Die Macht und der Preis des Wissens“ und „Verborgene Reiche“ befassen, werden schließlich den Spielern die Existenz von parallelen Realitäten enthüllen. Statt in fremde Länder vorzustoßen könnten deine okkulten Abenteurer den Blick nach innen richten und sich den seltsamen Reichen der Gedanken, Träume, Geister und der Seele zuwenden. Wenn du zu diesem Thema Abenteuer planst, dann überlege, wie die Charaktere die Realitäten vor ihren Augen auf einer tieferen Ebene ausforschen könnten. Wenn sie z.B. Geheimnisse erkunden, könntest du ihnen ab und an Möglichkeiten eröffnen, die Transitiven Ebenen zu erkunden oder sogar über diese auf die Äußeren Ebenen vorzustoßen, um an Hinweise zu gelangen. Eine Geistebene[link2] ist in der Regel eine surreale, rätselhafte Landschaft, in welcher die Charaktere ihre Aufgaben erfüllen, indem sie die Geistebene[link2] bereisen und den sie kontrollierenden Verstand entweder täuschen oder zufriedenstellen, seine Verteidigungen überwinden, seine Türe öffnen und erfahren, was tief in seinem Inneren vergraben liegt. Der SL sollte entsprechend vorbereitet sein, Spielszenen durchzuführen, in denen die Charaktere sich in nichtmaterielle Reiche projizieren. Bei Abenteuern dieses Themas könnten die Charaktere die wirre Geistebene[link2] eines Wahnsinnigen oder eines Opfers von Besessenheit betreten, sie könnten aber auch in die Geistebene[link2] eines Feindes vorstoßen, um verborgenes Wissen zu stehlen oder Einflüsterungen in seinem Unterbewusstsein zu implantieren.

Fürchte und ehre das Unbekannte

Die Elemente „Rätsel innerhalb von Rätseln“ und „Verborgene Reiche“ betonen das Gefühl außerweltlicher Ehrfurcht, die das Okkulte inspiriert, indem sie die Reaktion der Alltagswelt auf unheimliche Phänomene aufzeigt. In okkulten Abenteuern neigen die gewöhnlichen Leute dazu, unbekannte Umstände, die sich ihrer Kontrolle entziehen, zu fürchten. Gerüchte und Aberglauben nähren diese Furcht zudem und eine verängstigte Bevölkerung kann rasch zu extremen Mitteln wie heiligen Inquisitionen und Hexenjagden greifen, um das Gefühl von Sicherheit zurückzugewinnen, egal wie kurzlebig es sein mag. Als Resultat der allgemeinen Paranoia könnte das Okkulte daher eine für die Charaktere verbotene Kunst sein, deren Ausübung sie geheim halten müssen. Es kann sein, dass sie andere Eingeweihte mittels unauffälliger Zeichen finden und mit ihnen in Geheimsprachen oder über Symbole kommunizieren müssen, während sie einen Schattenkrieg im Namen einer Welt ausfechten, die sie fürchtet und meidet.

In einem anderen Ansatz dieses Themas könnte das gemeine Volk von Leuten oder Wesen, die die okkulten Künste beherrschen, fasziniert sein – und diese Faszination könnte sogar in Verehrung ausarten. Man fragt sie um Rat hinsichtlich der Zukunft oder damit sie ihre übersinnlichen Kräfte nutzen, um zu sehen, was anderen verborgen bleibt. Aus der anderen Seite locken finstere Praktizierer der okkulten Künste oft Lakaien und willige Diener an, die der Dunkelheit mit Freuden dienen, so dass bösartige Kulte voller gefährlicher, skrupelloser Raubtiere in Menschengestalt entstehen, die ihren charismatischen Anführern aufs Wort gehorchen.

Das allgegenwärtige Okkulte

Sollte ein SL eine ausschließlich okkulte Kampagne leiten wollen, wird er wahrscheinlich die meisten oder alle der okkulten Elemente verwenden und mehrere überlappende Themen ausarbeiten, um seine Kampagne auf die dunkleren Reiche zuzusteuern. Es sind keine Veränderungen der Spielmechanismen nötig, damit auch arkane und göttliche Klassen an einer Kampagne teilhaben können, in welcher die Charaktere außergewöhnliche Wesen darstellen, die es wagen, ihre Kräfte auf eine Weise einzusetzen, die das Verständnis der Sterblichen übersteigt. NSC mit übernatürlichen Kräften sollten selten sein oder sich vor der Welt verbergen. Es kann große und mächtige Kirchen geben, die über beachtliche wirtschaftliche und politische Macht verfügen, aber nur ein paar wenige Individuen sind imstande, Wunder zu wirken, und selbst diese könnten trotz ihres außergewöhnlichen Glaubens außerhalb der Doktrin und damit der Gunst der Kirche operieren. Vielleicht gibt es in solchen Kampagnen keine wahren Götter oder kann man ihren Status als göttliche Wesen nicht beweisen. Vielleicht sind die sogenannten Götter in Wahrheit Geister oder andere unergründliche Mächte, die zwischen den Dimensionen existieren. Die Äußeren Ebenen und die dort lebenden Götter könnten alternativ auch eine gemeinsame Manifestation des kollektiven Unterbewusstseins darstellen, die deshalb anderen erscheint, weil sie daran glauben.
